It ain’t all about riding Ma’am..
The number of hours sitting in the pub per riding mile ratio has increased once again, thanks to the long summer nights. Here we can see a small number of volunteers trying to find the coins for the second round. Cheers!
Challenging conditions in Georgia
A few intrepid types have gone on holiday in Georgia, it seems that the conditions are tough.
Gerry’s 80th Birthday Party
BOB’s most “experienced” rider Gerry was 80 this week. To celebrate we had a BBQ in the woods along with champagne and cake. Thanks to all the BOB members who made either the leisure ride or the longer ride and made it such a special event.
Why we always wear helmets (get well soon Jon)
Jon had a “bit of an off” and cracked a vertebrae. Which is why kids we always wear lids 🙂 (he should be OK after 6 weeks in a neck brace I am glad to report)
Lakes Away Ride
25 odd BOB riders made a trip to the lakes for the weekend. Great trails led by Mark and even some light drinking.
Spring is here
The days are getting warmer and many BOBs are out and about doing what they do best. It might not last any longer than the bluebells, so better get the most out of it while you can.
First and Second in the race and the series for BOB Youth Riders
Harry and Luke finished 1st and 2nd in the final round of the Gorrick Spring series on a fast and technically challenging course. They also finished in the same order for the series. Thanks to the training of the Wednesday Night “fast” rides and encouragement from Richard and Jon and the other BOB racers.
Hell of the North Cotswolds (HONC)
After a quiet social drink (bit of a session with one associate member driving from Norfolk not making it down for breakfast) the BOB team headed out for the 32nd running of the HONC event. Everyone made our round and a great route with fantastic views meant an enjoyable day for all.
BOB First Aid training.
We have been running Fist Aid training with a range of practical exercises and more classroom based activities. We subsidise the costs as you never know when you might need it.
Large man found in woods
A large man was found lying down in the woods, fortunately the BOB rider was able to clear the obstacle and no one was hurt 🙂
Good results for the Juniors in the Spring Series
Harry bagged a second place and Luke a fourth in the first round of the Gorrick Spring series at Crowthorne Woods. The race was held in sunshine and the competition was tough with a challenging course comprised of some old favourites such as corkscrew but new trails as well.
Its Snow Joke
With the recent snow falls its become obvious that some bikes are better equipped than others when it comes to the white stuff!
BOB Junior Riders take 1st and 2nd in the Gorrick Enduro Series
Harry won all 3 rounds and clinched the overall title whilst Luke got two 3rd places and a 5th to secure 2nd overall. Well done to both the BOB members.
First into the first corner for Luke.
Harry looks for the fastest line
Meanwhile Greg has had enough of the rain and has gone cycling in Jordan.
Annual City Slickers Ride
The 21st Annual Running of the City Slickers ride saw 22 BOB riders head off for a ride round London. We covered 40 miles and didn’t get wet !
Sunday “Explorer” Ride
Another Sunday away ride this week to the Farnham area. Colin took the lead for a classic 6 hour ride followed by pub stop.
The annual Tinsel Ride was a great success. The kids and adults all had a great time followed by mince pies and mulled wine.
The Christmas party theme was Robin Hood. A few of the hardcore party types went all medieval on us but everyone had a great night out. The post party Sunday ride was very badly attended.
Annual BOB Sprint won by Jon on a single speed fat bike.
Jon Clucas managed to win his first race since the 90’s on a 30kg bike carrying a 10kg camelback. Jon commented on his surprise win saying”I put it down to an excellent training program and Colin’s homebrew cider”
Luke wins the “youth” category at the Gorrick Autumn classic
BOB Rider Luke Peyton won the youth category at the Gorrick race at Crowthorne woods. Luke took the lead after what was described as an “excellent use of race craft” overtake on the fist lap and managed to hold onto the lead until the end.
Winter is here
Winter has started and as usual BOB rides continue through the cold nights. We have two rides on Wednesday and a Thursday for the fans of night rides plus the usual Saturday and Sunday rides. If you are interested in joining us have a look at the membership section for all the details.
Exmoor Round 2
One weekend later and another group of BOB members descended on the West Country. A second week of sunshine must have been an all time record and the result was a lot of smiling cyclists.
Exmoor Round 1
The first of the Exmoor away rides was a great success with no injuries, sunshine and a good time had by all 17 riders. Richard even got a KOM for riding up Dukeries beacon very quickly!
South Downs Way Weekend Ride
24 (ish) went out and they all made it. Great fun and good weather as well made for a fast pace and lots of smiles along the way.
Gorrick 12:12 TORQ in your sleep Enduro
The August Bank Holiday saw the annual Gorrick 12:12 race with over 500 riders taking part. BOB had lots of teams entered (and in most categories) below are some of the photo’s.
Top result of the day goes to Richard, Louise, Harry and Stuart (just back from the Alps!) who managed a 3rd in the Mixed 4’s against professional teams (who wear the right kit!!). Just goes to show the Wednesday ride fast ride really has picked up the pace recently.
Trans Savoie Race
BOB Member Stuart Pegg took part in the 5 day race across the Alps, below are some of the photo’s and video’s of the event.
After 4 days racing Stuart is in 19th position. Here is a highlights video from day 4:
Here’s the highlights from day 2.

Fat Bike Leap
Colin shows how its done on a fat bike (with camping bags)
Not just any ride its the 9:30 Ride
The 9:30 long ride went out at 9:30 and back at 15:30. A lovely day in the sunshine with Champagne picnic half way round for Elaine’s birthday. Not just a bike ride … a BOB ride 🙂
Forest of Dean Enduro Night Race
John, Stuart and Ian had a go at the Forest Of Dean Night Enduro. Looks like fun.
Bit cold out
So that’s why they are called the black mountains.
A few BOB members had a weekend away including Ice Park Wales. Looks like fun.
Annual 20th running of the City Slickers Ride
29 hardy BOB members set off for the annual City Slickers ride around London in lovely sunshine and “fresh” temperatures. All the usual bits plus this years “hidden rivers of London” additional loop finishing as always in the pub. 50 miles and lots of fun.
Merry Christmas to all. All the usual rides are running despite the threat of snow (the fat bike gang have been wishing for it!) See you all in the New Year. For those who are thinking of joining the next introduction ride is Saturday 17th just click on the link for Membership.
BOB’s at The Olympic Velodrome
31 BOB Members went on a special 3hr session on the track at the velodrome. Those banks are much steeper thank they look on TV.
It will never catch on
The eagle eyed will have noticed an outbreak of fat bikes. The latest incarnation is a bit too much if you ask me.
Gorrick Brass Monkeys Round 1
The first round off the Merida Brass Monkeys event took place at Minley on the 23rd of November. Congratulations go to Louise winning in the Ladies and Harry who bagged 3rd in the Juniors. The BOB event tent stood up to the deluge and the rivers of mud meant that anyone who made it round deserves a round of applause.
Bike Park Wales Away Day
Fun day out for all the BOB members at BPW. The benefit of being in a club is you get your own uplift bus.
Annual BOB Sprint at Gorrick Crowthorne Woods
This years proud winner was Anna. Colin won the retro shirt competition for his fetching 90’s vintage BOB top on its annual outing. A great day in the sunshine for everyone.
Strange things going on in the forest
This weeks night rides have been interrupted by strange things going on in the woods. Ghosts and Fat Bikes seem to be the main issue.
Great Ride out in The Chilterns
12 BOB members cycled out for a fun day out in the Chilterns. Good weather and minimal mud / clay made for a happy bunch. That and the pub stop on the way round.
BOB Trip to Exmoor.
Best of clip (but without the crash)
Ian in “horrific” leaping rock incident
Ian Blout was involved in an incident during the Exmoor away ride and captured it on his Go-Pro. We are not sure what’s worse the crash or the persil white shorts never to be as clean again. Have a look at the slow motion at the end and see what bought him crashing down.
BOB Exmoor Trip
29 BOB Members enjoyed a great weekend away on the annual Exmoor ride. Over two days of challenging riding with fantastic weather. The new event tents were used to provide a great focal point and the huge open fire along with the London Pride on Keg and Paella ensured everyone was well fed and watered.
Isle of Man End to End
Well done to Team BOB and the 11 riders who made it over to the Isle of Man for the end to end race. 5th out of 59 teams.
Gorrick 12:12 Enduro
A large number of BOB teams entered the 12:12 Torq Enduro. You can see a few of them in action!
South Downs way in 2 days for Anna and Elaine
Sunset over Swinley
Elaine and Anna saw a great sunset on Monday nights ride.
Like to get away from it all and don’t want to pay for a camp site .. why not bike camp. Basically load up with all your food and equipment and head out (washing is strictly optional)
South Downs Way in a day.
4 BOB members set out at 7am from Winchester and by 10pm they had covered the 104 miles and 12,000 ft of climbing to finish in Eastbourne. Unfortunately due to a lack of time this is the only photo!
Mark went cycling in the Chilterns
Mark went cycling and took this photo of a dead poppy field. Its artistic (in a strange kind of way)
Annual BOB Alps Trip (S)
A few of our members have been off in the Alps last week on various trips. You can see some of the highlights below:
BOB Members Graham and Colin tackle the Yellow Stone Trail at Les Arcs
BOB Member Stuart Pegg’s qualifying run for the Mega. A lot of very fast overtaking!
3 BOB’s get fat in Scotland
3 of our hardy members headed off to Scotland to go bike / camping on fat bikes. The boys ended up in the Outer Hebrides so far North it doesn’t get dark.
BOB Trip to Bike Park Wales
16 BOB members went to Bike Park Wales and even had their own up lift bus.
BOB Scotland Trip
Lots of BOB’s went for a week in Scotland. The sun shone and a good time was had by all!
Spin up in a Brewery
A grand day out with a ride from Brighton to the dark star brewery followed by racing (after a lot of beer!!)
Great day out and a great course for the Gorrick 100 Enduro Race. (Pardon my ego thats the highest I have ever been off the ground on a 29er)
BOB’s do the HONC
14 BOB riders took the opportunity of a great day out with Winchcombe Cycling Club at the 30th Anniversary of the HONC (Hell of the North Cotswolds) 100km “reliability trial”. A fantastic day of blue skies and dry trails with the usual cheeky climbs made for a challenging but fun days ride. To quote Doug a HONC virgin “thats the toughest thing I have ever done!”
Annual BOB Sprint
The annual BOB handicap sprint took place at the Gorrick Spring series. Despite various attempts at blatant bribery Jon Lucas set the “handicaps” to ensure a tight race to the finish. Richard Kendal won (despite starting at the back) in a close race.
Jon and Ian go Tandem
Bearded BOB members Jon and Ian have spent their combined Christmas money on a new tandem. Featuring “Natural Alloy” construction and cable pull disc brakes as well as many other quality build parts that you would expect for £150 they took it for a ride on the Saturday morning 4hr ride. Many of the other riders have only just stopped laughing. If you have never seen a tandem “get air” on the gnarly parts of porridge pot its a sight for sore eyes.
Brass Monkeys final round
Congratulations to all the BOB team who made it out in challenging conditions (truly Epic) at the final round in Tunnel Hill.
Well done to Richard, Louise and Harry on their podium finishes for the series. Also thanks to Gorrick and the sponsors for the series impeccably organised and great fun.
Its still damp
It seems tank traps is more tank lake @ swinley
Its damp out
The Gorrick race was a bit damp but everyone had a good time, the 9.30 big ride led by Colin was also a wet one. However prize of the day goes to Juliet for her solo swim in Tank Traps.
Annual City Slickers ride in London
The 18th annual “City Slickers” ride saw 21 BOB’s take a trip to London and a 40 mile circular route taking in all the sights including a historical wizz round the 7 gates of the City. The rain and wind in the morning made for challenging riding but we were rewarded with late afternoon sunshine and a beer on the way home.
BOB member goes to the Isle of Man (again) for Christmas
BOB Yoga Night
BOB club Yoga night stretched the parts that other clubs can’t reach. Big thanks to Karen for organising and listening to a very silent class. As she said in the pub later “legs aren’t a problem but you need to work on your flexibility”
Brass Monkeys II (the revenge)
Another great course laid on by the Monkeys, plenty of single track and a couple of very cheeky climbs. Well done to all the BOB’s who took part in particular Louise Parker with a 2nd place and Harry and Luke in the Juniors.
Annual Tinsel Ride
The BOB tinsel ride was great fun with over 45 riders enjoying a ride round the woods and a mince pie / mulled wine afterwards. Best dressed bike award again went to Pete (particularly for use of advanced Christmas lighting systems)
First Brass Monkeys event of the Winter Series at Minley
Great Minley course from Gorrick and lots of BOB members enjoyed the fast and flowing lap especially the new bits. A big thanks to all the team who battled against rain and tree felling to make the event possible.
All the results will be on the Gorrick site so you can see how you all did. Looking forward to round 2 (err when I might do more than 1 lap)
Great day out with Gorrick at the Autumn Classic (II) Race in Minley.
The Autumn classic was just that. Great course and lovely warm sunshine. The Minley course held up well with plenty of “Gorricky” singletrack and a few cheeky hills plus a small mud feature at the end.
Well done to Richard, Louise, Sarah on catergory wins and to all the other BOB’s who took part.
See you at the Brass Monkeys enduro.
The BOB Snowdon trip was described as “character building”. 80mph winds with hail.
Autumn Sunshine on the Saturday 10am
It was a lovely day out and the trails were riding well. Why not try the Saturday 10am ride, today was around 3 hrs and 26 miles.
Clocks go back, winter has arrived, how about night riding?
If you have never done it before night riding is great fun and your usual favourite trails look totally different in the dark. Why not join in the fun on a BOB ride? We have 3 regular weekly night rides. For all the details of how to join in click on the membership tab.
Gorrick Autumn Series
Well done to Richard Kendall, Louise Parker, Sarah Whelan and Luke Peyton on their wins for BOB in the Gorrick Autumn Classic.
Exmoor Away Ride
